CEO For The Day
This annual Rite of Passage for our Year 6 pupils is a comprehensive, hands-on experience that goes beyond simply mimicking the job application process. It aligns with our commitment to promoting SMSC (Spiritual, Moral, Social, and Cultural) development, upholding British Values, and meeting the requirements of the Baker Clause.
By participating in this program, pupils engage deeply with key elements of SMSC. They develop spiritually by reflecting on their aspirations and understanding the significance of leadership roles within the school community. Morally, they are challenged to consider the responsibilities and ethical dimensions of the positions they aspire to. Socially, the program encourages teamwork, communication, and the ability to navigate complex interpersonal dynamics—skills essential for both personal and professional growth. Culturally, students gain insight into the diverse roles within our Trust, appreciating the importance of each position in contributing to the broader community.
In addition, the program strongly reinforces British Values, particularly democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect. The democratic process of applying and interviewing for a role teaches students about fairness, meritocracy, and the importance of making informed choices. Understanding the rules and expectations of each role helps students appreciate the necessity of laws and guidelines in society. The experience of holding a position of responsibility, however briefly, empowers students to exercise their individual liberties while respecting the rights and contributions of others.
Furthermore, this initiative supports the Baker Clause by providing students with practical exposure to leadership roles and career pathways at a young age. It broadens their understanding of the world of work, helping them to consider future careers in education, management, and other sectors. This early engagement with career education is vital for making informed decisions about their future educational and vocational paths.
On the day, successful applicants take on the responsibilities of running the Trust, experiencing life as the CEO, Trust Business and Finance Manager, and Central Teacher, complete with their own PA. This immersive experience not only prepares them for the future but also instills a strong sense of responsibility, community, and ambition—key elements of their ongoing development within our educational framework.
